We’ve all heard it…”Fail to plan, and you’re planning to fail.” Pretty sound and basic advice for anyone who is in an MLM business (or intending to be).
Oh, I can hear it now…”I already KNOW what I need to do.” Or, “I’ve got it all RIGHT here in my head” or “I’m too small to do all that work!” That frame of mind is exactly why 95% of the people who become involved in our Network Marketing industry are failing. I’ve always admired Tom Peters, the author or co-author of ten international bestsellers, including “In Search of Excellence”, which he wrote with Bob Waterman in 1982. He is a self-described “prince of disorder, champion of bold failures, maestro of zest, and corporate cheerleader. But boy doesn’t he rile them up
Before John Maxwell came out with his Leadership books, Tom Peters had already written “A Passion for Excellence, The Leadership Difference” and that made a major impact on me. (That was in 1985).

Once you define your MLM niche, you are likely to find many other niches within it.
A niche is a clear subset of a larger category.
Home-based entrepreneurs, pet owners, computer users, chocolate lovers and gardeners are all separate niches. Some consumers might belong to several of those niches.
An example of what a niche market is not: “People who want to learn how to shoot better scores in golf.”
In this example, there are far too many people within the main category (golf) to make this a true niche. Virtually everyone who plays golf will want to play better and shoot better scores so this wouldn’t qualify as a niche, much less a category worth pursuing.
An example of a niche market: “Women who play golf who want to learn how to drive the ball longer and straighter.”
This would be a niche because it clearly defines and segments who you’ll cater to and why they would need your service. Read the rest of this entry »

Ok, since a niche is a position of opportunity…think of your specialty, or an area you specialize in.
Hopefully, this connects to your MLM Business in some way…it should!
To determine if a particular MLM niche is right for you, ask yourself these questions:
- Do I have an identifiable target population with similar interests and needs?
- Is the market large enough to support my MLM business?
- Can I tailor my products, services, and MLM business identity to address that market’s particular needs?
- Is my target market currently underserved?
- Can I reach my potential customers in a cost-effective manner?
Niche marketing focuses on a specific segment of consumers.
An MLM niche can be defined by a consumer’s age, gender, ethnic background, occupation, hobbies, and other interests.
Even problems can be a defining characteristic.

The English word “niche” comes from a French word that means, “to nest.” And that’s what Network Marketing Distributors can learn to do very successfully, filling small voids left by the big players.
A niche market is a focused, targetable portion of a market. By definition, then, an MLM business that focuses on a niche market is addressing a need for a product or service that is not being addressed by mainstream providers. You can think of a niche market as a narrowly defined group of potential customers. Each niche, by definition, has its own special place in the market.
It has to start with you analyzing the MLM Company you joined. Many people join Nutritional Companies or Telecommunications companies…and whichever you joined…you had a reason. Read the rest of this entry »

When you just get started online, it’s tough…you have a lot to learn and you don’t even know the questions to ask. I know, I’ve been there. I was willing to just ask a lot of questions (some were really, really dumb) and I usually asked the smartest people I could find.
Here’s a few of the most common mistakes so you can avoid them and get started right:
Do NOT use FREE email addresses…no hotmail, no yahoo, no gmail. It doesn’t give you any credibility and if you want to make money online…You don’t want to look like your broke! Free email addresses don’t cut it! Even aol usernames keep you anonymous. Unless it is really descriptive of you and part of who you are online, change the aol username!
You need to recognize that most of the internet use FREE email addresses for JUNK email or a throwaway account and frankly I never take anyone seriously when I see them use a FREE email address. I don’t care if you’re paying for it! Read the rest of this entry »

We talked about internet stats, so let’s see how you can identify your market for your MLM business.
One of the things that I think is very different between the online and offline markets is that it’s so much easier to find a market within any variety of niches. The research is readily available to identify the number of people within a niche, how big it is and where to communicate with that market. It’s so easy online, whereas it’s more difficult and time-consuming offline.
And new market niches constantly pop up. These niches are not big enough to go offline; they’d cost too much to get to. But online, you have people that are congregating in one spot from all over the world at one web site, or one e-mail list, or one forum. Read the rest of this entry »
